The Beginning
My career started when I graduated with a 2:1 BA (Hons) in Advertising and Public Relations back in 2007. I dreamt of a career where I could put my love of writing and creativity to good use and PR and marketing seemed to fit the bill.
Public Relations
I started off in a small, niche PR agency, predominantly with clients in the healthcare and pharmaceutical industries. For the next few years, I spent time working across several different agencies with clients in a whole host of sectors including hospitality & foodservice, financial services, facilities management to name a few. (funeral directors, baggage handlers, ice driving, electric garden machinery – yes you name it I’ve probably been involved with a client of some sort!)
Social Media
Then the world went a little social media crazy and I began an exciting position with an agency forging the way into ‘blogger outreach’ and ‘social media for business’. I was lucky enough to work on a few great projects, including a major US sports brand and a French cognac. It was an amazing experience at a time when smartphones and social media changed the world of marketing as we know it.
Marketing
I decided to head to an in-house role and spent several years in the depths of a marketing department, servicing the business units of a large aviation, aerospace, and defence company. Here I gained my Professional Diploma in Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing and learnt the ropes of office life in the corporate world.
Following a successful few years (where I discovered a passion for all flying things – not bugs) I progressed to a cyber security business, within another defence company. Lots more to learn and discover about the techy and sometimes scary world of the internet!
Home Life
In 2017 I welcomed my first child, another in 2020 and my final mini-me joined us in 2022. During these crazy few years raising the babies I have worked for an independent art gallery, supporting the sales team with everything from client documentation, invoicing, inventory, AML and all areas of office administration.
This takes us to the present day, and I have two sayings that I absolutely believe have seen me through to where I am now. They are:
‘Bring me solutions not problems’
‘Never assume anything’.
My Spare Time
In my spare time I love to keep active and enjoy the outdoors whether its walking or running. I enjoy taking the children out for the day but equally like time at home in the garden. I’m into craft, particularly with fabrics, paper or ink, and catching up on a good old Netflix series or cheesy romcom film!
I am a member of the local playschool committee and as such hold a valid DBS certificate on the update service. We regularly host fundraising activities and contribute parent feedback to the running of the facility.
